E-mobility remains a future trend and the combustion engine still provides in the medium-term great potiential for optimization: This was the essence of the symposium on the mobility of the future that Mahr held on the ocassion of its 150-year anniversary. The official ceremony marking the anniversary of the application specialist Mahr was celebrated together with 2,000 guests from politics, associations and business. For decades, the Mahr Group has been equipping the automotive industry and its suppliers worldwide with production metrology for quality assurance. On the 150th anniversary of the company, Mahr held a symposium on September 22, 2011 entitled “Mobility in Changing Times”. In his speech, Dr. Günter Spur, TU Berlin, outlined the history of metrology beginning with its founder Carl Mahr in 1861 until today and emphasized the importance of metrology for quality assurance. Dr. Olaf Dübel from Volkswagen reported that work is currently being done on fuel-efficient combustion engines and electric motors are being newly developed. Dr. Rolf Leonhardt from Bosch emphasized in front of a filled auditorium at Mahr headquarters in Göttingen that the production of motors will pursue a double-track strategy: There is a demand for electric motors but the efficiency and environmental friendliness of gasoline and diesel engines will continue to be optimized. Dr. Harald Naunheimer from ZF Friedrichshafen complemented this statement by saying that the power train also has plenty of potential for emissions reduction. Engineer Patrick Pfeiffer from the TU Darmstadt made it clear that in order to make an electric drive suitable for long distances, completely new production and measuring procedures are needed. „… the conventional drive also has great potential for optimization“, said all speakers of the conference. Uwe Kauder, Head of Sales at Mahr concluded ”No one will be able to do without metrology in the future, neither the electric motor nor the higher demands on combustion engines. Mahr will continue to support the sustainable reduction of CO2 emissions with measurement solutions“. Mahr celebrated its anniversary one day later on September 23, 2011 with a jubilee in Göttingen. Among the 2,000 guests were e.g. as speaker the mayor of Göttingen Wolfgang Meyer, Dr. Gert Kollment from Oheimb-Loup as director of the business archives and Dr. Harald Bosse of the Physikalisch-Technischen Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig. Mahr director Stephan Gais emphasized that in retrospect, the Mahr Group has had great continuity: “Six managing directors in 150 years, that is quite unusual – and a benefit.” The managing director named one of the recipes for success the long-term oriented, sustainable mind of thought as an owner-managed family business combined with responsibility for employees and customers. Looking towards the future and the further internationalization Gais said: “We also want to become the leading metrology application provider outside of Europe and North America.” |
