New at the Control 20120: Mahr develops high-precision measuring solution for the smallest spheres, plates, cones or cylindrical parts

Workpieces are increasingly shrinking in size – in combustion engines in the automotive industry as well as in medical or precision engineering. But when the production quality of the smallest spheres, plates, cones or cylindrical parts is supposed to be checked, conventional measuring systems are usually overwhelmed. Now Mahr has developed a measuring solution with which the quality of these very small workpieces can be precisely and cost-efficiently tested. Mahr will present this innovation to the public at the Control 2012.

As an application specialist for metrology, Mahr has developed a completely new, innovative measuring concept for the testing of small parts. The smallest part such as a 1 mm large plate with a thickness of 0.1 mm, spheres with a 0.1 mm diameter, or 1 mm long high-precision internal tapers and larger workpiece must also be checked for quality. However, these small pieces were previously only measurable with great effort and / or relatively imprecisely, since they could not be correctly fixed on conventional measuring stations.

The innovative concept from Mahr is breaking new ground: The attempt is not even made to clamp the tiny parts, but they are placed in a different manner in a stationary position on the measuring machine. The small pieces can be contacted reproducibly- and are therefore reliably measurable.

For the measurement of small parts, Mahr uses its renowned “Precimar 826” Gage Block Measuring Unit. The measuring station offers the user the required measuring accuracy in the sub-µ range – more precisely: from up to 35 nanometers. For all this precision, the Mahr solution offers a very attractive price-performance ratio and thus a rapid return on investment.
